If there is one advice that I will give out to any parent- it is to spend time with your child reading a storybook.
As someone who grew up with stories from Panchatantra, Hitopadesh, the short stories of Akbar-Birbal or the bedtime narrations of Ramayana or Mahabharata [Nani ki kahaani :)]... I know what it means to a child.
But now research has shown us that there is more than just good feeling linked to a story. We make new connections, build imagination, learn language and sharpen our minds. All of which translates to better literacy too.
The art of story-telling- it is what makes us humans different from all other species. WE.. pass our wisdom through stories.
So go pick up that book, and read your child a story today, and then everyday :)
